Description

Kick off your summer in 2025 with visit NC concierge’s inaugural Grande Circle Tour, happening June 1-6, 2025. This immersive journey will take you through the stunning landscapes and rich cultural heritage of North Carolina’s Coastal Plain and Outer Banks. Experience serene beauty, abundant wildlife and a captivating history – all at a relaxed, engaging pace designed to educate, inspire and entertain.

Day 1 – Our adventure begins at the North Carolina Estuarium in Washington, the world’s first estuarium and one of the state’s most innovative environmental centers. With more than 200 exhibits showcasing the diverse estuaries that lie inside North Carolina’s barrier island shoreline, this fascinating treasure sets the stage for the journey ahead. From Washington, we’ll head south to New Bern to tour Tryon Palace, the first permanent capital of colonial North Carolina. Continuing to Beaufort – recently named “America’s Favorite Town” by Travel & Leisure – we’ll unwind with a sunset catamaran cruise, immersing ourselves in the laid-back charm of coastal life.

Day 2 – Our day begins at the Bonehenge Whale Center, for an expert lecture on North Carolina’s cetaceans, followed by the Beaufort Historical Site’s double-decker bus tour. We’ll then visit the NC Division of Marine Fisheries in Morehead for an insight into the stewardship of the state’s marine resources. Dinner at Moonrakers will offer another spectacular sunset to cap off the day.

Day 3 – After departing Beaufort, we’ll journey to Cedar Island to board the ferry to Ocracoke. This idyllic ride through the Pamlico Sound offers views of Cape Lookout National Seashore and Portsmouth Island, with water stretching endlessly in every direction. Once on Ocracoke, we’ll enjoy lunch at the iconic Howard’s Pub, followed by a historic lecture and free time to explore the island by golf cart. Dinner will be a Low Country Boil, with plenty of free time to enjoy the island’s vibrant nightlife.

Day 4 – Our next stop is Hatteras Island, where we’ll take another ferry to visit NC’s newest maritime museum, The Graveyard of the Atlantic Museum. After exploring the museum and enjoying lunch, we’ll continue north along Highway 12, passing the iconic Cape Hatteras Lighthouse (currently undergoing renovation) before arriving at the Chicamacomico Life Saving Station. Here, we’ll learn about the vital role this forerunner to the U.S. Coast Guard played in our state’s and nation’s history. We’ll finish the day with a leisurely beach walk in Kitty Hawk and a relaxing dinner at the hotel.

Day 5 – Today, we dive into the history of flight at the 1902 Wright Glider Historical Presentation, which sets the stage for our afternoon visit to the Wright Brothers National Memorial. We’ll then head to Jockey’s Ridge State Park, home to the highest sand dune on the East Coast and North Carolina’s most visited state park. This year marks the 50th anniversary of the park, and we’ll take time to celebrate its history. Our Outer Banks experience concludes with a magical performance of The Lost Colony, a grand finale to remember.

Day 6 – As our journey comes to a close, we’ll head west to the U.S. Coast Guard Station in Elizabeth City. Here, we’ll gain a deeper understanding of how life-saving stations like Chicamacomico laid the foundation for this vital part of our national maritime security.

This fabulous summer holiday is filled with natural beauty, rich wildlife, history, local culture and the magic of North Carolina’s beautiful coast. Don’t miss it!
