Description
Join visit NC concierge on September 7th – 9th for an immersion experience into this vibrant city. Our tour includes a variety of exceptional offerings combining culture, sports, and natural beauty. On our way to Charlotte, we will spend time at the North Carolina Zoo. Our exclusive Ride-and-a-Guide Tour will put us up close with wildlife from around the world. After leaving the Zoo and before arriving at our hotel, we’ll visit the Charlotte Motor Speedway – considered the home track for NASCAR.
After checking into our hotel, dinner awaits just a short walk away.
Day two of this adventure begins with a behind-the-scenes tour of Bank of American Stadium, home of the Carolina Panthers – the state’s only NFL team, followed by the world-renowned, Immersive Van Gogh Exhibit. The day concludes at Wing Haven Garden & Bird Sanctuary, the site of acclaimed garden writer Elizabeth Lawrence’s living laboratory. Brimming with Southern horticulture and habitat for birds and wildlife, this peaceful sanctuary is a feast for body, mind, and soul. After our tour, we’ll enjoy a catered dinner on-site.
Day three – After checking out of our hotel Thursday morning, our motor coach heads for Seagrove and the North Carolina Pottery Center. A guided tour of the museum’s permanent and special exhibits explores the rich culture of this ancient craft promoting public awareness and appreciation of the history, heritage, and ongoing tradition of pottery making in North Carolina.
Following lunch we will visit the studio of Ben Owen III, named a “North Carolina Living Treasure” by UNC-Wilmington Museum of World Cultures in 2004. Ben’s grandfather, master potter Ben Owen Sr., introduced his grandson to pottery when he was 8 years old. Ben will chat with us about his family’s unique connection to the art and craft of clay.
Our final stop before returning to Raleigh will be Jugtown – the oldest, continuously operating pottery in the Moore and Randolph county area. It’s off the main road and practically hidden amongst the trees, and is a true step back in time.
