Celebrate the National Parks Centennial

Last month I wrote about the collaboration between our North Carolina Symphony and the North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences. Vivaldi’s Four Seasons came to life with the stunning scenery from our state parks. Celebrating the centennial anniversary of both the NC State Parks and our National Park Service in 2016 reminds us all how fortunate we are to live in this nation with its rich and varied geography. We owe a debt of gratitude to those who had the foresight to establish these park systems.

I just discovered a unique opportunity to learn more about the national parks: The Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at NC State University is offering a course entitled “The Centennial of our National Parks” this summer. Spaces are still available!

There are 14 national parks and more than 40 state parks and recreation areas in North Carolina. Go to ncparks.gov and nps.gov to plan your visits this summer.
