Description

As the nation prepares to commemorate the 250th anniversary of the American Revolution and the founding of the United States, there’s no better place to reflect on our shared story than Virginia – where more of what made America happen, happened. From the founding ideals that shaped a nation to the leading figures who helped forge it, Virginia stands at the heart of our country’s revolutionary legacy.

Visit NC concierge is delighted to announce a unique travel opportunity to experience this legacy, the Virginia International Tattoo and Historic Garden Week April 19-22, 2026. Based in Norfolk, this springtime adventure celebrates the area’s proud military history and honors our country’s NATO Alliance during the annual Norfolk NATO Festival held every April. We’ll cruise the Elizabeth River and Hampton Roads Harbor for an up close and personal view of the Atlantic Fleet.

Historic Garden Week in Virginia offers something for everyone. The only statewide house and garden tour in the nation, inspiring gardens, architecture and history offer a rich multi-layered tapestry of spring that is enchanting and exhilarating.

Day 1 – Our adventure begins upon arrival in Norfolk at Tattoo Hullabaloo where we’ll enjoy music, dancing, drill routines and drumming exhibitions to kick off our Tattoo performance. The Virginia International Tattoo, a centuries-old Scottish tradition with a 21st century American soul, honors and showcases our NATO Alliance. Following the Tattoo performance we’ll check into our hotel. Dinner will be in the hotel.

Day 2 – After breakfast in the hotel, we’ll board the bus for a picturesque drive along the James River to Historic Shirley and Berkeley Plantations*. These homes are only open to the public during Historic Garden Week and other special events, as they are privately owned and inhabited by descendants of the original families. Upon returning to the hotel in late afternoon, we’ll walk to a casual dining space near our hotel in the Waterside complex.

Day 3 – 2026 marks the 100th anniversary of Colonial Williamsburg. This year’s Historic Garden Tour includes Bassett Hall, an 18th century farmhouse that was the residence of John D. Rockefeller, Jr. and his wife, Abby, during their funding and restoration of Colonial Williamsburg in the 1930s. Following lunch, we will return to Norfolk for a docent led tour of the Chrysler Art Museum. Dinner will be at the Town Point Club overlooking the Elizabeth River.

Day 4 – After checking out of our hotel, an exuberant display of azaleas, camellias and tulips that erupts each April at the Norfolk Botanical Garden will transport us into a springtime wonderland.  Returning to Waterside in the late morning, a narrated tour of the harbor and lunch offers a front row seat to the Atlantic Fleet made up of destroyers, guided missile cruisers, submarines, aircraft carriers and more. After disembarking our tour boat, it will be time to board our bus for the return trip to Raleigh.

Please note Historic Shirley and Berkeley Plantations tours are NOT accessible to persons with mobility issues. Considerable walking is involved. With steps and uneven terrain, walking shoes are highly recommended.

Tidewater Virginia is ready to enchant you with a kaleidoscope of springtime experiences! Be sure to sign up early to secure your spot! Limited to 30 guests.
