Seagrove: The Handmade Pottery Capital of the U.S.
Private Tour – Contact Us to Book
“Nestled in the countryside of North Carolina you will find the largest concentration of working potters in the United States.” Concentrated in the heart of North Carolina, in Randolph, Lee, and Moore Counties, no other state possesses such a large, diverse, and continuous ceramic heritage.
Come with us to explore the rich culture of this ancient craft as we travel to the heart of North Carolina’s pottery traditions in Seagrove. Seagrove is approximately an hour and a half from Raleigh. The North Carolina Pottery Center is our first stop, where we will enjoy a guided tour of the museum’s permanent and special exhibits followed by a live demonstration. Learn about the history, heritage, and ongoing tradition of pottery-making in North Carolina, and how the Center’s focus on education programs, public services, collection and preservation, and research and documentation is keeping traditional craftsmanship alive. Following an enjoyable lunch, we will visit 2-3 working potteries in the area.
We are pleased to offer this experience in collaboration with the Meredith College Alumnae Association.
